RECENT ADVANCEMENTS IN THE FINE FINISHING OF POLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND (PCD) AND CUBIC BORON NITRIDE (CBN) CUTTING TOOLS, INSERTS, AND COMPACTS HAVE LED TO THE AUTOMATION OF THE FINAL EDGE RADIUSING AND/OR HONING OPERATIONS PREVIOUSLY BEING PERFORMED BY MANUAL OR BATCH PROCESSING METHODS. THE NEW TECHNOLOGY EMPLOYS FLEXIBLE SUPERABRASIVE FINISHING TOOLS COMPRISED OF PCD OR CBN CRYSTALS OR POWDERS HOMOGENEOUSLY DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT SPECIAL RESILIENT PLASTIC FILAMENTS MADE INTO RADIAL WHEEL AND OTHER SHAPES, SUITABLE FOR USE ON HIGH-PRECISION AUTOMATED COMPUTER NUMERICAL CONTROLLED MACHINE TOOLS. THIS NEW SUPERABRASIVE APPLICATION AND PROCESS TECHNOLOGY BUILDS AND IMPROVES UPON THE PRESENT HIGH-PRODUCTION RADIUS GRINDING OF CARBIDE AND CERAMIC CUTTING TOOL INSERTS USING SILICON CARBIDE MINERALS WITH RESILIENT NYLON FILAMENTS IN RADIAL WHEEL FORMS ON AUTOMATED MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT.
