THE INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED MANUFACTURING SCIENCES, INCORPORATED INVESTIGATED AND COMPARED THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIFFERENT GRINDING WHEEL MATERIALS FOR WET VERSUS DRY GRINDING OF CARBON-COMPOSITE-REINFORCED LAMINATE. GRINDING FORCES WERE MEASURED WHILE GRINDING OVER A RANGE OF DIFFERENT WHEEL AND WORKPIECE SPEEDS WITH VARIED PLUNGING INFEED RATES. THE GRINDING FORCE MAGNITUDES WERE USED TO EVALUATE THE GRINDING PARAMETERS AND TO DETERMINE SUITABLE PARAMETERS FOR PRODUCTION BY UNDERSTANDING THEIR INFLUENCE UPON SURFACE ROUGHNESS (DELAMINATION), ABILITY TO MAINTAIN PART SIZE, GRINDING WHEEL WEAR, AND GRINDING WHEEL LOADING.
