MONITORING APPARATUS USING ACOUSTIC SENSORS DESIGNED FOR CHATTER DETECTION, WHEEL WEAR MONITORING, AND DRESSING CONTROL HAVE BEEN TESTED IN A UNIVERSITY LABORATORY. AN AE SENSOR SETUP USING THE COOLANT FLUID AS THE SIGNAL TRANSMISSION MEDIA HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO DETECT CHATTER AND WORKPIECE BURN. THE AE SETUP IS ALSO CAPABLE OF MONITORING WORKPIECE SURFACE PATTERN. FOR BETTER CONTROL OF THE DRESSING OPERATION, A SYSTEM USING THE DRESSING TOOL AS A TOUCH PROBE WITH AE SENSOR WAS STUDIED.
