This paper presents an experimental study to characterize the effect of the microstructure of glass ceramics on machining performance. Fabrication of all ceramic dental restorations is used to demonstrate a competing objective between the enhancement of material properties and the sustenance of machinability to ease fabrication. Specimens of three types of microstructure with different grain size were carefully prepared, and machining tests were carried out to obtain the strength degradation data.
