This paper presents a relationship between surface roughness and material removal rate of ceramic cylindrical parts, such as silicon flat parts machined using magnetic-abrasive process with diamond magnetic-abrasive powder. Analysis of experiments show that the grain size of diamond has no effect on the surface roughness but has a significant effect on material removal rate. Indeed, there is an optimum grain size which achieves the maximum material removal rate.
