A MACHINE UTILIZATION STRATEGY IS ONE WHICH INCLUDES THE PRODUCTS, TECHNOLOGIES, AND PROCEDURES THAT PRODUCE THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF UTILITY FROM CAPITAL INTENSIVE EQUIPMENT WITHIN THE METALCUTTING INDUSTRY. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO ORGANIZE THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS ON THE FACTORY FLOOR BY USING THE FULL PERFORMANCE POTENTIAL OF BOTH MACHINE TOOL AND CUTTING TOOL TO INCREASE MACHINE OUTPUT, AND TO REDUCE DOWNTIME RESULTING FROM PART SETUP, TOOL CHANGE, TOOL OFFSETTING, AND CATASTROPHIC TOOL FAILURE. THE STRATEGY ELIMINATES TOOL AND COMPONENT SEARCH ON THE FACTORY FLOOR, TRANSFERS TOOL MAINTENANCE TO THE TOOLROOM, AND CUTS MEASURING TIME FROM IN-PROCESS MACHINING.
