FORCE PREDICTION METHODS CURRENTLY USED IN INDUSTRY OFTEN ARE FOUND TO GIVE INCORRECT ANSWERS. THIS PAPER DEALS WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR PREDICTING THE CUTTING FORCES AND COMPARES IT WITH THE METHODS CURRENTLY USED. THE EXPERIMENTS WERE PLANNED ACCORDING TO THE TAGUCHI METHODS OF ROBUST DESIGN. A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR PREDICTING THE FORCES IN TURNING IS PROPOSED. IT IS FOUND THAT THE PREDICTOR EQUATIONS APPROXIMATES WITH 95.8% AVERAGE ACCURACY THE BEHAVIOR OF FORCES IN THE ENVELOPED OF PARAMETERS USED.
