AN INDUSTRIAL MANUFACTURER OF TRANSMISSIONS HAS IMPLEMENTED A ROBOTIC CELL FOR THE DEBURRING OF THE MAIN TRANSMISSION HOUSING. THE ROBOT USES OVER 20 TOOLS AND REQUIRES A CYCLE TIME OF 2.5 HOURS TO COMPLETE THIS TASK. THE TOOL AND PATH INFORMATION REQUIRED BY THE ROBOT IS EXTENSIVE AND POTENTIALLY UNMANAGEABLE IN A FACTORY PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT. SOFTWARE WAS DEVELOPED ON THE ROBOT CONTROLLER THAT UTILIZES MODERN PROGRAMMING TECHNIQUES (OBJECT-ORIENTED PROGRAMMING METHODOLOGIES (SEPARATING DATA FROM FUNCTION OPERATORS) FOR DEFINING TASKS, A DATABASE THAT LOGICALLY STORES ALL PATH AND TOOLING INFORMATION, AND WINDOWS FOR A SIMPLIFIED OPERATOR INTERFACE). AS A RESULT, THE ROBOT CAN BE EASILY MODIFIED TO EDIT THE PARAMETERS OF THE EXISTING PROCESS OR TO EXPAND THE SYSTEM WITH ADDITIONAL TASKS OR TOOLS. THE GENERAL NATURE OF THE ROBOTIC SOFTWARE CAN BE APPLIED TO OTHER DEBURRING APPLICATION
