IN AEROSPACE CUTTING PROCESSES, PART LOCATION FIXTURES HAVE TRADITIONALLY BEEN AN IMPORTANT ELEMENT FOR SUCCESSFUL PART PROCESSING. THESE FIXTURES ARE EXPENSIVE AND DO NOT PROVIDE THE FLEXIBILITY REQUIRED IN TODAY'S AEROSPACE PRODUCTION NEEDS. NEW TECHNIQUES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED WHICH NOW MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO SIMPLIFY THE PART PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS WHILE REDUCING FIXTURING AND IMPROVING PRODUCTION FLEXIBILITY. THIS TECHNIQUE INVOLVES THE USE OF A FIVE-AXES PROBE ALONG WITH INTEGRATED TRANSFORMATION TECHNIQUES TO LOCATE THE PART IN SIX DIMENSIONS BEFORE THE CUTTING PROCESS. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS PROBING TECHNIQUE INCLUDING FIXTURING AND CALIBRATION REQUIREMENTS.
