A METHOD, WEDG (WIRE ELECTRODISCHARGE GRINDING), FOR MACHINING FINE PIN TOOLS IS PROPOSED. THE PRINCIPLE IS BASED ON EDM USING A TRAVELLING WIRE AS THE ELECTRODE. THE FEATURE OF THIS METHOD IS GENERALLY DISCUSSED AND THE POSSIBILITY OF MACHINING SMALL PINS WITH VARIOUS SHAPES IS DEMONSTRATED. EXPERIMENTS USING TWO TYPES OF EQUIPMENT VERIFY THE FEASIBILITY OF THIS METHOD. SEVERAL APPLICATIONS INCLUDING THE PRODUCTION OF ELECTRODES FOR MICRO-EDM, PUNCHES FOR MICROPUNCHING, AND DRILLS AND ENDMILLS FOR MECHANICAL MICROCUTTING ARE PROVEN TO BE PRACTICAL.
