THE ROBOT DESCRIBED IS USED FOR COATING RADAR ABSORBING MATERIAL (RAM) ONTO NOMEX FIBER GLASS HONEY COMB CORES USED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF THE STRATEGIC/TACTICAL AIRCRAFTS. THE ROBOT COATS 4 FEET X 8 FEET SHEETS OF NOMEX FIBER GLASS HONEY COMB CORES USING A POINT-TO-POINT PROGRAMMING METHOD. SENSORS INSTALLED IN THE MONORAIL TRIGGERED THE CORES TO BE POSITIONED AND THEN MOVED THEM TO THE NEXT STATION. PREVIOUSLY, THIS OPERATION OF COATING WAS DONE MANUALLY BY THREE WORKERS. THE USE OF THE ROBOT PRODUCED A SAVINGS OF 0.85 HOURS PER CORE. THE COMPLETE PRICE OF THE ROBOT AND THE SUPPORTING EQUIPMENT WAS $155,000.
