THIS PAPER DESCRIBES HOW SIMULATION WAS UTILIZED TO EVALUATE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE MEASURES OF A PROPOSED OFF- SHORE AUTOMATED ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURING FACILITY. THE SYSTEM CONSISTS OF 12 ROBOTIC ASSEMBLY CELLS AND 19 GANTRY ROBOTS FOR AUTOMATED TEST LOADING IN A CLASS 10 CLEAN ROOM ENVIRONMENT. AN INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM WITH REWORK LOOPS PROVIDES THE MATERIAL MOVEMENT BETWEEN STATIONS. THE SIMULATION MODEL HELPED EVALUATE WIP LEVELS AND THROUGHPUT BASED ON VARYING YIELD, CYCLE TIME, MACHINE AND ROBOT UPTIME. THE MODEL ALSO HIGHLIGHTED POTENTIAL BOTTLENECKS AND ULTIMATELY PROVIDED A REALISTIC TOOL TO SIZE THE SYSTEM.
