THE OBJECTIVE OF RALB (ROBOTIC ASSEMBLY LINE BALANCING) ALGORITHM IS TO BALANCE THE ASSEMBLY LINE BY ALLOCATING EQUAL AMOUNTS OF WORK TO THE STATIONS ON THE LINE, WHILE ASSIGNING THE MOST EFFICIENT ROBOT TYPE TO EACH WORKSTATION, MINIMIZING THE NUMBER OF WORKSTATIONS (AND ROBOTS). RALB USES A BRANCH AND BOUND FRONTIER SEARCH TO REACH A SOLUTION. HEURISTICS ARE INTRODUCED TO SOLVE LARGE OR DIFFICULT PROBLEMS. RESULTS OF TESTING RALB WITH ASSEMBLY PROBLEMS OF DIFFERENT CHARACTERISTICS SERVE FOR IDENTIFYING WHICH PROBLEM PARAMETERS CONSTITUTE A DIFFICULT TO SOLVE PROBLEM.
