DESCRIBED IS A UNIQUE NEW SENSOR TECHNOLOGY FOR IN-LINE DETECTION OF INTEGRITY OF PART OR ASSEMBLY GEOMETRY. THE SENSORS ARE BASED ON SIMILAR TECHNIQUES OF FORCE FIELD SENSING AS USED IN CURRENT VERIFICATION SYSTEM, BUT HAVE BEEN MINIATURIZED TO FIT INTO IN-LINE APPLICATIONS WHERE ACCESS TO THE PART BEING CHECKED IS OFTEN LIMITED. A SERIES OF APPLICATION TO INDUSTRIAL PROBLEMS ARE DESCRIBED. THESE INCLUDE VERIFICATION THAT GEOMETRY OF EACH PART BEING MANUFACTURED IS CORRECT, OR THAT ASSEMBLIES ARE CORRECT. TYPES OF DEFECTS DETECTED ARE MIS-FORMED PARTS, PARTS WITH MISSING COMPONENTS, AND ASSEMBLIES WHICH ARE NOT FULLY ASSEMBLED. THE TECHNOLOGY USES A SINGLE SENSOR TO VERIFY A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT PARAMETERS ON A PART OR ASSEMBLY AT TYPICAL LINE SPEEDS. FLEXIBILITY IS PROVIDED BY A SELF- TEACH METHOD WHICH ELIMINATES THE NEED TO PROGRAM INDIVIDUAL PART GEOMETRIES AND TOLERANCES OR OTHER P
