THE HOLOMETRICS 3D VISION SYSTEMS ARE BASED ON WELL KNOWN LASER RADAR TECHNOLOGIES. THE EXTRACTION OF OBJECT SHAPE DESCRIPTORS IN THE SCENE IS ACCOMPLISHED WITH NEAREST NEIGHBORHOOD TRANSFORMS. THESE PERFORM SPHERICALLY SYMMETRIC SHRINK AND EXPAND OPERATIONS. THIS APPROACH PROVIDES FOR VERY POWERFUL PERFORMANCE FOR ACCOMPLISHING FUNCTIONS SUCH AS OBJECT IDENTIFICATION. THE SYSTEM DEMONSTRATED PROBABILITIES OF CORRECT OBJECT IDENTIFICATION GREATER THAN 0.99. APPLICATIONS OF THIS TECHNOLOGY INCLUDE MATERIALS HANDLING, ROBOT PICK AND PLACE, ROBOT NAVIGATION AND OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE, BIN PICKING, INSPECTION, AND PROVIDE A VISION SUBSTITUTE FOR
