This paper deals with a new approach to initial mesh generation and dynamic mesh adjustment for finite element analysis of machines, especially when machines are put under actual operating states. The initial meshes are generated for every individual constituent primitives and adjusted at their contacting surfaces by CBC Substitution Approach, during the process of solid modeling. Mapping technique is adopted to transform curved primitives to plain ones for the convenience of automatic mesh adjustment. The information on both relative motions and finite elements of machines are preserved in a specific data structure which makes the dynamic mesh adjustment speedy and localizable.
