After 45 years of producing injection molds using conventional industry-wide methods, technological advances dictated radical changes in our standard operating procedures. Duplicating cores and cavities from casts of master models (usually constructed of wood) was no longer accurate enough to satisfy customer requirements. Although it was obvious that computer-assisted operations were necessary, the best approach to take was very unclear. This paper details how changes to standard operating procedures were made.
