This paper introduces a GATO (Graph-Aided & Tolerance-Oriented) algorithm for the setup planning of prismatic parts in CAPP (Computer-Aided Process Planning). A tolerance graph concept with physical meaning is introduced, which makes directed graph theory suitably applied in setup planning. The impacts of both dimensional tolerances and geometrical tolerances in setup planning are analyzed. An examples is used to illustrate the algorithm.
