THIS STUDY ESTABLISHED THROUGH A SURVEY THAT THE KNOWLEDGE OF EIA-BASED CNC PROGRAMMING KNOWLEDGE IS IMPORTANT FOR COLLEGE-PREPARED MANUFACTURING ENGINEERS. THE SURVEY IDENTIFIED THAT KNOWLEDGE OF SPEEDS AND FEEDS, ABSOLUTE POSITIONING, CUTTER COMPENSATION, PROGRAMMING IN INCH UNITS, AND MACHINING PRACTICE WERE MOST IMPORTANT. THE STUDY FURTHER COMPARED THE CAPABILITY OF INSTRUCTIONAL AND INDUSTRIAL CNC MACHINE TOOLS TO DELIVER THE IDENTIFIED CONTENT. ALL MACHINES PERMITTED EIA PROGRAMMING, AND LESS COSTLY INSTRUCTIONAL-LEVEL MACHINE TOOLS PERMITTED THE TEACHING OF MOST IMPORTANT G AND M CODES. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT MANUFACTURING EDUCATORS SHOULD CONSIDER THE COSTS/BENEFITS OF INSTRUCTIONAL-LEVEL CNC MACHINE TOOLS FOR INSTRUCTION.
