TODAY'S COMPUTER NUMERICAL CONTROLLED (CNC) TOUCH-PROBE TECHNOLOGY CAN PRODUCE PROFILES ACCURATE TO ABOUT 10 MICRONS (0.00039 INCHES). HOWEVER, MODERN TOLERANCES ARE APPROACHING THE ONE MICRON LEVEL FOR MOST HIGH-PRECISION MACHINED PARTS (SUCH AS HIGH-PRECISION GEARS). CNC TOUCH PROBE MACHINES CANNOT PROVIDE THE ACCURACY OR SPEED NEEDED FOR INSPECTING AND VERIFYING AT THIS LEVEL. ELECTRO-OPTICAL TECHNOLOGY ALLOWS ANOTHER AVENUE OF APPROACH, OPENING A NEW WORLD OF NONCONTACT, MICRON-LEVEL INSPECTION. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES AN ELECTRO- OPTICAL IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TRADITIONAL GUILLOTINE GAGE, BUILT OF OFF-THE-SHELF COMPONENTS. THE OPTICAL GUILLOTINE (OG) GAGE IS A UNIQUE TWIST ON STANDARD LIGHT-STRIPE GAGES AND LASER TRIANGULATION DEVICES. A UNIQUE DESIGN ALLEVIATES TRADITIONAL DEPTH-OF-FIELD, PERSPECTIVE DISTORTION, AND PIXEL RESOLUTION PROBLEMS. ALTHOUGH THE OG TECHNIQUE WAS ORIGINALLY
