With ever-increasing box performance demands, converters are finding it necessary to have their equipment operators run quality checks in every phase of manufacturing.
Caliper control is becoming one of the most important parameters related to the strength of the box. Low caliper is usually the result of poorly formed flutes resulting in poor box performance.
Each grade of corrugated has a caliper target that is based on the depth of the flutes in the corrugated rolls plus the thickness of the liners. Whenever the measured caliper of a given grade of combined board is less than the established target value (established by manufacturer or customer), we have failed to achieve the maximum strength potential of the materials we are combining.
