Sodium phosphinate hydrate is a chemical that functions as a reducing agent in nickel plating, antioxidant in pharmaceutical preparations, and reagent for arsenic and iodates.
Limited data were identified for sodium phosphinate hydrate. As it is the monohydrate of sodium hypophosphite, sodium hyphosphite is used as the chemical surrogate for hazard classification. The two chemicals differ by one molecule of hydrogen only, and therefore are expected to have almost identical physiochemical properties and toxicological profiles. As ToxServices has previously conducted a streamlined GreenScreen® evaluation of sodium hypophosphite, a streamlined GreenScreen® for sodium phosphinate hydrate was therefore not conducted. Only summaries from the GreenScreen® of the surrogate of sodium hypophosphite are presented in the current GreenScreen® assessment.
