2-Phenoxyethanol is a chemical that is used as a preservative in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, as a fixative in perfumes, as an ingredient in organic synthesis of germicides, plasticizers, and pharmaceuticals, as a bactericide when used in conjunction with quaternary ammonium compounds, as a solvent for cellulose acetate and dyes, and in insect repellents. It has also been used for the treatment of superficial wounds, burns, and abscesses.
